The project deals with the contemporary historical and socio-culturally relevant topic, namely with the theme of the (re)unification of Germany and the (re)disintegration of Yugoslavia from the point of view of the dramas of German and Serbian authors Botho Strauß and Dušan Kovačević, covering the period from 1988 to 1996. The goal of the project is based on the examination of the transition years in Germany and Yugoslavia, as well as the redrawn geopolitical borders and consequences that are manifested in these reshaped countries. The central element in the methodology is an examination of the performativity that drama as a literary genre carries with it, but also the engagement that plays carry with it. The studied plays are approached from the angle of intermediality, the questioning of ideological mechanisms and (re-)(de-)construction of identity. The project provides a transregional, transcultural and interdisciplinary contribution that places literature in the modern and current context of reality and thus communicates with interdisciplinary discourses of integration and disintegration, which ultimately can contribute to a better understanding of the context of reality and current situations in Europe nowadays.
